Persistaltic pumps provide accuracy in contact lens manufacture

Watson-Marlow peristaltic pumps have been installed by Award plc in a production line manufacturing contact lenses, because of their ability to dose small quantities with high accuracy in hygienic conditions.

Award plc manufactures daily disposable contact lenses using a unique moulding method which eliminates the need to finally machine the edge of the lens. In a special purpose filling unit, a liquid monomer is dispensed into lens moulds and then cured.

Award plc also uses Watson-Marlow 505Di/AA16 cassette pumps to dispense saline and deionised water to finished lenses. Very few other pumps can offer the multi-channel capability and flow rate consistency provided by the Watson-Marlow units.
