Pork Farms Bowyers in Trowbridge is part of the well known Northern Foods group and has recently commissioned a new ready meal manufacturing area for meat balls or sausages with a rich onion gravy, to join the company's extensive range of chilled family meals. Safe handling of the onion gravy between the cookers and production line proved difficult and an automated means of transferring the onion gravy was required to improve "housekeeping". Research within the company revealed that Watson-Marlow Bredel SPX hose pumps were proving to be best practice for food transfer duties - already well demonstrated by sister companies, Riverside Bakery and Manor Bakeries. The onion gravy is delicate, the onion content being 45% by weight and below 2C and the cooked onion pieces must remain undamaged. This important requirement is met fully by the gentle action of the Watson-Marlow Bredel pump.
