Modular Flexicon technology facilitates growth at diagnostic reagent manufacturer
- Efficient, automated capping added to filling capabilities
- Upgrade made simple by Flexicon modularity
- Improved health and safety
Hart Biologicals' range of diagnostic reagents is proving increasingly popular for in-vitro laboratory applications such as the detection, prevention and monitoring of medical conditions related to haemostasis and platelet function. A recent increase in demand meant the company required greater automation than was offered by its existing Flexicon FF20 filling system as it did not feature capping capability. With the need to relieve finger duress and guarantee repeatable vial cap tightness, Hart Biologicals required automated capping equipment.
Due to the inherent modularity of Flexicon systems, upgrades are extremely straightforward. Having opted for a Flexicon FF30 bottle filling and capping system, Hart Biologicals was able to use its existing PF6 peristaltic dispensing pump (incorporated in the FF20) and transfer it to the new FF30 with minimal downtime.
The Flexicon FF30 is now used to successfully fill vials with reagents and cap them on completion. Hart Biologicals says that the upgrade allows the processing of up to 1,200 units per hour, while ensuring caps are secured tightly, time-after-time. The system also helps protect the ongoing health and safety of employees. In addition, the FF30 at Hart Biologicals is facilitating high accuracy filling (±0.5%) and easy product changeover without cross-contamination or the need for cleaning validation.
