Waste water authority hypo application

500 series pump in hypochlorite pumping applicationA waste water authority near Castle Rock, CO was pumping sodium hypochlorite with a diaphragm metering pump as part of a disinfection method.

The plant was experiencing problems with vapor locking in the diaphragm pumps due to gas in the pumpheads, not to mention the excessive corrosion of the pumphead internal components. After costly repairs and downtime, as well as continual problems in operation, the plant decided to investigate other options.

They visited a local Watson-Marlow pump installation, which led to a decision to purchase four Watson-Marlow 520 range pumps as replacements to their diaphragm pumps. At the same time they purchased clear silicone tubing to allow visual observation of the sodium hypochlorite while it was being pumped and to prevent accidental exposure during tubing change-out.

Since installation, the plant has lowered their costs. They no longer have to order spare parts or have costly downtime to repair the pumps. No more vapor locking and they were also impressed with the ease of calibration and control of the pumps.
